Los Angeles police say a 9-year-old boy playing with a loaded gun accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old brother.

Police said in a statement Saturday that officers and paramedics found the toddler with a bullet wound to the torso after they were called to the boys' home in the San Fernando Valley.

Police say the 2-year-old died at a hospital Friday night.

The statement says homicide detectives interviewed family members and determined that the gun had gone off while the 9-year-old was playing with it.

Police say no criminal charges are pending.

The name of the 9-year-old was not released because he is a minor, and the name of the 2-year-old is being withheld while family members are properly notified.

Ok, now this is the kind of stuff that just PISSES me off. What happens? Do the ignorant parents say, "Here, little Jimmy, here's a loaded 9mm Glock, you and your little brother go play with it"?  They might as well, if they're no more responsible than that with a firearm.

A nine year old should have already been taught gun safety anyway. Oh, but I forget, this is LA LA land.  The story says 'no charges are pending'. Well, they should be. How about charges of stupidity, ignorance, or at least one that would stick, negligence.

I mean what the hell? "Gee, what did I do with my pistol, I can't seem to remember where I put it".

This is ridiculous. I have grandchildren come and visit from time to time, and do you think for one freaking SECOND, that I'm not aware of where my firearm(s) are?

Evidently these kids weren't being watched anyway, never mind the fact that the older one got the gun.

Like I said, this sort of thing just pisses me off.

No charges would be as effective as those excuses for parents having to live with the memory of their stupidity for the rest of their lives and I think when the nine year old gets old enough to REALLY understand that he'll remind'em too.  In all my years I've never seen an actual accidental shooting of any kind, only the result from stupidity.

I hope you don't mind that I say this publicly, but I know for a fact that you're a good bit older than me, and I can also say I have NEVER seen and only heard of once an "accidental" shooting. "Unintentional" is the word we want to use.

The only "accidental" shooting I've ever heard of, is that the guy's DOG shot him in the back, and even that could have been prevented, but that is so rare that I'll throw it in the "accidental" corner.

Most of this is common sense. What are we dealing with here? We're dealing with a DEADLY weapon. We're dealing with an intentional design, and a very good design, almost fail safe,  to KILL whatever it is pointed at.

So the bottom line is, if you do not want to kill [whatever] then DO NOT FK'N point it at [whatever].

As far as kids go, 9 years old is plenty old to teach them about guns. I have a feeling that the only thing this 9 year old knew about guns was what he had seen on TV.

And the responsible thing to do as a parent, is know where your firearm is at all times, and know what the hell your 9 year old and 2 year old are doing at all times.  There is NO excuse for this.
